In Mumbai, the CBI has filed a chargesheet against income-tax officer Sandeep Singh. Singh was serving as an assistant director with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on deputation when he was allegedly caught accepting a bribe in August. Leading an ED search team that conducted a raid on a jeweller's residence in Mumbai related to a money laundering case associated with a Chinese-controlled investment app, Singh, who was not the investigating officer, allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 20 lakh from the jeweller after the raid. Singh reportedly threatened to detain the jeweller's son in connection with the case if the money was not paid. The jeweller reported Singh's actions to the CBI, prompting a corruption case against him. In a sting operation set up by the CBI, Singh was arrested in Delhi after accepting the bribe. A previous bail application by Singh was denied, and he is currently in custody. The CBI seized a phone during Singh's arrest, which was not registered in his name.
